Caffeine Intake

Pattern cafe 1820

Different amounts of caffeine intake can have different mechanisms of action on our bodies:

  • Dosages of 200 – 300 mg/day have a positive effect on the body, where caffeine acts as an antagonist of the neuromodulator called adenosine.

To enjoy the effects of caffeine there are 3 important factors:

    1. How you prepare the brew
    2. The types of coffee you use
    3. The time of day you drink it

Scientific evidence has demonstrated that caffeine does not cause dependence; this has also been confirmed by the World Health Organization. The abrupt withdrawal of caffeine consumption can cause some effects on some daily users, but these generally do not last for long.

–  For some people, drinking coffee can become a habit, but a habit is not the same as an addiction. The World Health Organization has stated that there is no evidence suggesting caffeine intake can be compared to the physical and social effects caused by addictions.

–  Brain mapping technologies have demonstrated caffeine is not related to the brain pathways of dependency.

– In line with previous investigations about caffeine intake cessation, the American Psychiatric Association has recently stated that caffeine abstinence is a syndrome caused by the abrupt cessation or reduction of its consumption after a prolonged daily use.

– Symptoms of caffeine abstinence (e.g. headache, lethargy and somnolence) can be avoided with progressive reduction of the dosages.
